The Dakota Skye death was one of the most heartbreaking losses the adult industry suffered in 2021. Adult film star Dakota Skye was found dead in a trailer in Los Angeles on June 9, 2021. She was 27.

Born Lauren Kaye Scott on April 17, 1994, in Florida, she entered the adult industry in 2013 at 19 and quickly became one of its most recognizable faces, appearing in more than 300 videos and gracing hundreds of DVD covers before stepping away in 2019.

Dakota Skye Cause of Death

The Dakota Skye cause of death was ruled accidental acute multidrug intoxication by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner. The autopsy detected a devastating cocktail of substances including fentanyl, cocaine, methamphetamine, MDMA, amphetamine, benzodiazepines, and PCP.

Those close to her said Skye had been battling fentanyl addiction and had been through rehab multiple times. “She was really trying to get clean but she got involved with people that were a bad influence on her,” said her friend and colleague James Bartholet. Her aunt said she was “stalked by demons like no one will ever understand.”

Her final years were marked by tragedy — her mother died of addiction and alcoholism in 2019, she faced homelessness, and her marriage to Zachary Lecompte-Goble had ended in separation.

The Dakota Skye death, at just 27, made her another member of the tragic “27 Club” and a painful reminder of the addiction crisis.

Her Terrifying Final Night

The hours before her death were pure chaos. On the evening of June 8, 2021, Skye frantically called friends and coworkers with a frightening claim: the FBI and the Mafia were after her, and she was going to go become a Hells Angel biker. Every person she called refused to take her in. With nowhere to go, she walked from the San Fernando Valley to Los Angeles’ Skid Row. In the early hours of June 9, she asked to nap inside a stranger’s recreational vehicle at 652 Moulton Avenue. She was seen smoking something before lying down on the man’s couch. A short time later, she was discovered deceased — gone at 27.

Was She Really Homeless?

The day after her body was found, the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner confirmed her identity and listed her as homeless. But Rolling Stone pushed back on that label, reporting that she had actually been living with her boyfriend in Woodland Hills. Either way, the woman once worth booking across the industry died with nothing. Her husband was the one called to identify the body — a brutal final duty.

The Autopsy That Took Weeks to Explain

An autopsy was conducted on June 10, but the coroner held back the cause and manner of death pending “further investigation.” When the report finally landed, the truth was as grim as the speculation. The 5-foot-3, 105-pound star had died solely of acute multidrug intoxication — ruled an accident. Toxicology found amphetamine, benzodiazepines, benzoylecgonine (a cocaine metabolite), fentanyl, MDMA, methamphetamine, and phencyclidine in her system. It was not one bad night out. It was the end of a long war she had been losing in public.

Trolled to the End

Weeks before her death, Skye was savaged online after posing topless beside a George Floyd mural. Her aunt, 55-year-old Linda Arden, told The Sun that other performers piled on, mocking her in the weeks before she died. “Her real-life story, and how she came to be in that industry, has truly been a tragedy,” Linda said. “Lauren was a product of a highly dysfunctional family involving drugs, alcohol, physical, emotional, verbal and sexual abuse. She was stalked by demons like no one will ever understand unless you’ve lived it.” In another gut-punch twist, Dakota died almost exactly two years after her own mother — and shortly after losing two grandparents to Covid-19.

The Star She Once Was

Before the spiral, Skye was a genuine industry standout. She won the NightMoves Award for Best Feature Showgirl (Fan Choice) in 2014, earned an XBIZ nomination for Best New Starlet in 2015, and racked up multiple AVN Award nominations — including Best New Starlet and Best Star Showcase for “Meet Dakota Skye.” By 2019, she earned an AVN nomination for Favorite Female Performer. More than 300 videos and hundreds of DVD covers later, the fame could not outrun the addiction. The Dakota Skye death stands as one of the adult industry’s most painful cautionary tales — a star who had the world and lost it to the needle.
