The Dahlia Sky death shocked the adult entertainment industry in the summer of 2021. Adult film star Dahlia Sky was found dead in her car in Los Angeles on June 30, 2021. She was 31.
Born Melissa Kay Sims on August 10, 1989, in Riverside, California, she entered the adult industry in December 2010 under the name Bailey Blue after being contacted by an agent on MySpace. She changed her stage name to Dahlia Sky in 2014 and went on to amass more than 600 credits with major studios including Brazzers, Hustler, Evil Angel, and Zero Tolerance.
Dahlia Sky Cause of Death
The Dahlia Sky cause of death was ruled a suicide. According to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office, she died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head inside her vehicle in the Devonshire area of the San Fernando Valley. LAPD detective Dave Peteque said there was no evidence of foul play.
Sky had revealed on social media just months earlier that she was battling stage 4 metastatic breast cancer and struggling with depression. Her family said she had been homeless and living out of her car in Northridge, California, at the time.
Tributes poured in from across the industry. Stormy Daniels wrote: “Dahlia Sky was one of my absolute favorites. She was also a friend. I am heartbroken.” Abella Danger and producer Axel Braun also shared their grief.
She was six weeks shy of her 32nd birthday.
The Dahlia Sky death remains a heartbreaking reminder of the importance of mental health support.
Dahlia Sky’s Decade-Long Career
Before the cameras found her, Dahlia Sky worked ordinary jobs — fast-food shifts and a stint as a deli manager. An agent spotted her on MySpace, and in December 2010 she shot her first scene. She rebranded from Bailey Blue to Dahlia Sky in 2014 and never looked back.
Across a decade in the business she amassed roughly 600 credits on the Internet Adult Film Database — a staggering body of work for studios including Kink.com, Girlsway, Brazzers, Cherry Pimps, Hustler, Penthouse, Elegant Angel, Evil Angel and Mile High Media. She also did mainstream modeling and took small parts in mainstream films along the way.
The Final Months
In March 2021, Sky told her followers on social media that she had been diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic breast cancer and was battling depression. A GoFundMe page set up by her family later revealed she had been living in her car in the Northridge section of the San Fernando Valley.
Her last Instagram post came on January 22, 2021 — a casual outfit photo asking followers, “What do you think of my outfit?” Nothing about it hinted at what was coming. In the months that followed she grew increasingly withdrawn, posting less and barely engaging with fans.
A Tragically Similar Name
Sky’s death was frequently confused with another loss in the same month. On June 10, 2021, performer Dakota Skye — born Lauren Scott, 27 — died in Los Angeles in an apparent suicide after battling addiction. Despite the near-identical stage names, they were different women, and the two tragedies hit the industry within weeks of each other.
Tributes From the Industry
Stormy Daniels, who directed Sky at Wicked, wrote: “Dahlia Sky was one of my absolute favorites. She was also a friend. I am heartbroken to hear of her passing. She is the third death I’ve learned of in the last 24 hours. Life is so fragile.” Abella Danger said she was “at a loss for words,” while 2015 AVN Performer of the Year Annika Albrite called Sky her “first real friend in this industry” and added, “Depression is a bitch & something many battle w/ every day.” Their words set off a fresh round of conversations about mental health support for performers — a discussion that has only grown louder since.
